Open Question: Should I live with a friend that desires more than friendship?
I am a 27 yr old female currently living in Oklahoma. I have a 27 yr old male friend that moved to California last year, and throughout the past year we have become really close. I share everything with him, our love of music, beliefs, etc..we have a lot in common, and he is a very good man that cares for me very deeply. I recently made plans to come visit him (or actually to live with him and his family) within the next month or so. The problem is that he constantly tries to take our friendship to a romantic level, and I don’t know that I feel the same way for him. I have told him that for now, I need to remain friends and that we should move very slow. He has told me things such as ‘I’m falling in love with you,” and even has told me that he loves me. And altho I do love him as a person, I’m not sure I am on the same level as he is. Granted, when he lived here, he tried to get me to go out with him countless times, and I was just never attracted to him. I think I may be in love with the idea that a man will love me again (after a previous horrible 8 yr relationship). I really want to keep his friendship, but I’m afraid he will end it if I don’t want to be with him romanticly. He has already agreed with my wish that we should take things slowly, but says “the only thing that will hurt is if u don’t give us a chance at all.” and continues to call me “baby, lover girl”, etc. Am I making a mistake to move across the country to be with whom I consider a trusted friend, in order to better my life?
The thing is, I have been honest with him, but he still says “at least give us a chance”

That’s awesome that you dug them. The relating them to other bands thing is tricky for me. There is something really relatable about their sound, but I can’t quite put my finger on how I would put it out there. The Burton thing is funny. I wouldn’t have thought of it, but it totally makes sense. That’s a neat observation.

I’m really glad you liked it. I get a whole lot of satisfaction out of having these pan out for people. I like the first two better too (as much as I do like the third one a lot, I’ll admit that it’s inclusion was more based on it being a bit more accessible and it having a neat video), actually that record (Built On Squares) is one that I rediscovered a couple of months ago and really enjoy a lot. It’s got a lot of nice diversity, and I just like the balance of quirk and pop sensibility. Anyways. Thanks.
